A Fleet Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the operations of a fleet of commercial truck vehicles within an organization.
The specific job duties may vary depending on the industry and company, but generally, the role involves the following responsibilities:
  • Fleet Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the fleet, including vehicle maintenance, repairs, and inspections. Ensure that all vehicles are in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Supervision and Leadership: Provide leadership, guidance, and support to ensure efficient and effective performance.
  • Scheduling: Coordinate and schedule vehicle maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the fleet budget, including expenses related to fuel, maintenance, repairs, and personnel. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to stay within budget constraints.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to fleet operations. This includes safety regulations, environmental standards, and licensing requirements.
  • Vehicle Procurement: Participate in the acquisition of new vehicles, negotiate with suppliers, and ensure that the fleet meets the organization's operational needs.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize data and analytics to track key performance indicators, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to improve fleet efficiency.
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with drivers, maintenance staff, and other relevant departments. Address and resolve any issues or concerns related to fleet operations.
  • Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans for unforeseen events or accidents involving fleet vehicles.
  • Technology Integration: Stay updated on advancements in fleet management technology and integrate new tools or software to enhance efficiency and tracking.
  • Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, repairs, inspections, and other relevant documentation.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Implement and promote environmentally friendly practices within the fleet, such as fuel efficiency initiatives and emission reduction programs.
 Qualifications:
  • Experience in managing commercial trucks, three (3) years of experience related to heavy or light vehicle maintenance.
  • Minimum of two (2) years. experience in managing a large work group with demonstrated performance as well as managing remote locations
  • Specific training and/or extensive experience in maintenance or a related field, preferably in a supervisory role position, is required.
  • Prior experience in supervising, directing, and/or training employees is preferred
  • Prior experience with Fleet Management Information systems (FMIS)
  • Advanced PC Skills - MS Office with an emphasis on Excel. Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology (Samsara, etc).
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills obtaining buy-in and reaching consensus through collaborative efforts.
  • Respond to correspondence (phone, email, etc.) with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness
  • Customer oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Perform other duties as requested by Fleet Manager
